Coming to a Cinema close to you

By Chris Ashton  //  bonjourParis  //  Comments Off

Wednesday today. In the good old days, this day used to be synonymous with going to the movies. That was before having kids… Though my memory fails me in many a way, I still vaguely recollect the excitement of those big premiere evenings. In Paris, the premiere evening for films is invariably on Wednesdays. Let me tell you, they take their cinema mighty serious here in France. They consider it an art form, guess that’s why they call it the 7th art (don’t ask me what the first 6 art forms stand for?) and don’t miss out an occasion to remind you that the inventor of modern day cinema is a Frenchman, Monsieur Louis Lumiere! I’m not sure I really understand the French expression of cinematic art… problem here is that I’m unable to follow it through to “THE END – LA FIN”. That’s when my wife usually starts jabbing me in the ribs and I find myself having to warp out of a pleasant cat’s nap. Perhaps I’m not made for le cinema francais…

Now, today’s big release, is the new Christopher Nolan blockbuster, Inception. I hear you, where does Paris fit in here. Well, filming started in Tokyo on June 19, 2009 and finished in Canada in late November of the same year. In between, some of the shooting was made against the beautiful backdrop of the 7th and 15th arrondissements of Paris. Spectators of the film set were able to catch a glimpse of some neat special effects, including the blowing up of a bookshop and the usual car stunts. It is reported the highlight of the Paris shoot was the scene where Leonardo DiCaprio was engaged in some serious necking with French starlet Marion Cotillard on a Paris bridge. A nice perk in his otherwise gruelling work schedule, I take it? Don’t get me wrong, no envy in those lines, I love my job and am certain Leonardo would readily want to swap with me if he only knew how much love Paris hotels are willing to give.

Close to where some of the film’s action takes place you’ll find some great Paris hotels which include but are not restricted to Hotel Suede St Germain, Tryp De Saxe, Eiffel Segur, and Paris Eiffel Cambronne. All these properties are great three star properties and are all located in the fantastic area which is this outer Left Bank location, close to the Eiffel Tower.
